You could be eligible for the Commonwealth Prac Payment
Some degrees, such as those in nursing, teaching, and social work, require a mandatory work placement in a school, hospital or clinic for anywhere up to 1,000 hours. While these placements are a vital part of your study journey, stepping into a placement position can be financially challenging.
At Flinders University, students undertaking degrees with a mandatory placement can now receive financial support through the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP), introduced by the Australian Government. This payment can help ease the financial burden of placement costs and ensures you can focus on your learning and practical training.
From July 2025, if you’re eligible, you may be able to access up to $331.65 per week during your placement.
The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) is designed to support students in programs such as nursing, teaching, midwifery, and social work who are required to undertake mandatory placements. This financial aid will assist around 68,000 students across Australia, including those studying at Flinders University, by covering the costs of:
The CPP provides up to $331.65 per week, offering vital support during unpaid placements, which can last between 16 and 26 weeks. With this payment, students can continue their education without the financial strain.
Eligible fields of education include nursing, teaching, midwifery, and social work.
Applications will be processed through Flinders University. More details will be provided to eligible students in due course.
*Please note that the Commonwealth Prac Payments are subject to the passage of legislation. Not all programs with a mandatory placement are covered by the CPP. If your program isn't listed above, you most likely won't be able to access this payment. Programs that offer optional placements aren't included either.
