Sovereign Acts | Love Praxis
A Flinders University Museum of Art exhibition in partnership with Unbound Collective.
Celebrating 10 years of critical and creative work, the exhibition traces the group’s journey from their inaugural exhibition in 2014 at Fontanelle Gallery in Adelaide’s inner west, to their video-work PERMEATE | mapping skin and tides of saturated resistance, presented for ‘unsettling Queenstown’ in the Australia Pavilion for the 18th Venice Architectural Biennale. Unbound Collective engages with complex ideas of sovereign identity and representation, through the lens of First Nations knowledges and methodologies, offering radical new ways of speaking back to the enduring hold of colonialism in this country. Their work spans moving image, installation, song, poetry, and performance.
NOTE - Photographs may be taken at this event to be used for promotional purposes. Please advise staff on the day if you don't wish to be photographed.

Create/ure had its origins in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. The process began on-line in the private homes and spaces of the original cast through Teams collaborate sessions.
The work was then realised in the dance studio once we had permission to come back into the building at AC Arts. You may notice there are no partnering sequences due to restrictions at the time.
Theme:
An exploration of what it means to be a human entity identified as 'yourself'. How do we engage with the real world in its physical form as collective and individual?
Much of the work is based around how we see and make ourselves whether that be in public or internally.
Remount: Lisa Heaven
Cast: 2nd Year Dancers - Luis Medrow, Hayley Leffers, Jordan Kotowski, Sandy Williams, Oleksandra Selivanova and Noah Morey.

The Hall of Mirrors: A Retrospective.
A special screening event for the 2024 Wal Cherry Lecture
Fifty years ago this November, the first cohort of graduating Flinders Drama Centre actors – including Noni Hazlehurst, Neil Melville, Tom Considine and Douglas Gautier – presented their final production at the newly opened Space Theatre.
The production, The Fantasticks, was directed by Professor Wal Cherry, founder of the Flinders Drama Centre.
To celebrate this joint anniversary, the Drama Centre is returning to the Space Theatre for the 2024 Wal Cherry Lecture. This unique conversation and screening event will explore the spirit of innovation in Adelaide theatre and performing arts, to which Wal and generations of staff and graduates who followed, have made such an enduring contribution.
In 1982, young filmmaker and Drama Centre graduate Scott Hicks documented the ground breaking 12th edition of the Adelaide Festival of the Arts and its iconoclastic Artistic Director, Jim Sharman. The resulting film, The Hall of Mirrors: A Festival, features interviews with legendary artists from Pina Bausch to Patrick White, alongside footage of Adelaide, a city on the cusp of explosive creativity. Scott Hicks went on to earn seven Oscar nominations for Shine, and Jim Sharman remains one of Australian theatre’s most beloved figures and successful exports.
For this year’s Wal Cherry lecture, we are bringing together these two dynamic artists in conversation alongside a screening of The Hall of Mirrors. This is a rare chance to watch the documentary on the big screen, and to hear two of Australia’s most celebrated artists reflect on their legacies and on what it takes to drive creative innovation.
