A degree apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) while gaining industry experience and earning a salary. The apprenticeship is codesigned with our industry partners.
Employers provide on-the-job training by qualified and experienced supervisors and you put your learning into practice and develop the skills gained whilst studying your University qualification. You will be employed under a Training Contract with one of our Australian Defence Industry partners.
You will graduate as a qualified Mechanical Engineer.
The Training Contract is the legally binding and formal agreement between the host employer and you. It is for five years. It sets out key obligations of both the apprentice and the employer, training and supervision requirements, duration of the training and probationary period. The Training Contract also includes a Training Plan.
A Training Plan is a formal document that is agreed by you, your employer and Flinders University and sets out the topics you will study, the hours you can spend at university for study, and your study time release patterns. A sample Higher Education Training Plan is on the Skills SA webpage.
The standard University entrance requirements apply.
You will be paid an apprentice salary.
Employers will be responsible for payment of the student tuition fees.
Apprenticeships are selected and employed by our participating Industry partners. Applications will be shortlisted on merit, and an assessment process undertaken. Flinders University is not involved in this selection process.
