At Flinders University, our vision is to empower communities in regional South Australia and the Northern Territory by designing and delivering locally-based allied health programs in occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology.
By developing a strong allied health workforce in an interprofessional model of delivery, we will ensure that regional, rural, and remote healthcare remains accessible and sustainable for all.
Why are we pursuing this initiative?
Flinders University are taking action to address the significant health workforce shortage in regional, rural, and remote Australia. We are leading the change by creating meaningful education strategies to improve access and provide support to individuals who are often excluded from higher education, including students with lower socio-economic status, First Nations backgrounds, who live in remote areas, and who are living with disability.
As part of our Regional, Rural and Remote University-wide agenda, these exciting new degrees from the College of Nursing & Health Sciences will help boost employment opportunities while addressing community need for more allied health professionals in Renmark and Port Pirie, and in consultation with other regions.
Flinders University excels in providing evidence-based, interdisciplinary, future-proofed education to students living in regional, rural, and remote areas across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Industry collaborations
Programs have been developed in collaboration with local communities, including local health networks, service and education providers, accrediting bodies, and government representatives. Our commitment to these partnerships ensures our course curriculum and outcomes are tailored to meet the needs of health, disability, education, and aged care sectors.
Learn from the experts
Our interprofessional learning approach allows students to be taught by allied health experts and industry practitioners, ensuring they are well prepared for clinical practice in a variety of settings.
Connect with industry leaders
Students will have access to placement opportunities with industry partners, providing them with hands-on training while broadening their experience working with diverse individuals, families and communities.
Enjoy a student-centred learning environment
Study an allied health qualification from your hometown without travelling to Adelaide. Flinders is committed to creating a student-centred learning environment, where students build strong, lasting relationships with their cohort, teaching staff, and industry connections.

“
I was originally studying a bachelor of clinical exercise physiology online with another university as living in the Riverland and having a young family it was my only option. When I heard that Flinders were opening this degree right here in my own backyard, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to apply. The best decision I made was transferring to Flinders.

I chose occupational therapy because it offers a rewarding career, centred around helping people regain independence and improve their quality of life after injury, illness, or disability. I choose Flinders because they offer a bachelors regionally which is a first. This meant I could stay rural and continue giving back to my community without having to move to Adelaide.
