This 10 day face-to-face non-award short course prepares registered nurses with the skills and knowledge required to become effective members of remote primary health care teams.
The 10-day course is presented as two intensives. The first intensive - Framing Indigenous Health - has a focus on cultural safety, the social determinants of health and primary health care. The intensive will enhance knowledge and skills specifically relating to the geographical, environmental, and cultural context of remote health service delivery. The second intensive - Remote Advanced Nursing Practice - develops foundational skills and knowledge for advanced nursing practice in remote areas. The Remote Area Nurse Model of Consultation is the basis for clinical reasoning and assessment, clinical communication, and collaborative practice. Use of standard treatment manuals are used to guide evidence-based practice.
Structured observation of Remote Area Nurse consultation plus 100% attendance.
