Year 12 is an exciting, but busy year. In addition to completing your High School education, you also have to consider where life will take you next year.
Making the choice to go to university involves a number of decisions:
These choices can cause additional stress, so here are a few tips to make the transition as straight forward as possible and put your worries to rest!
In Years 11 and 12, you might be interested in a number of different courses and are worried about having to pick one. How on earth you will make this decision when ordering your SATAC preferences for this year or next.
Just remember, you are not locked in once you have chosen a course. You can change your preferences before the cut off dates or else you can change your course even after you have started at university. It's easy to change your degree at Flinders. Sometimes you have to try out a course before you can know whether it is the best choice for you.
If you have applied for the course of your dreams it is always useful to have a pathway course included as a back-up preference. Speak with the team of Student Advisors at Flinders if you aren’t sure which pathway course is best for you. Search for pathways courses.
Flinderslink is a guaranteed entry scheme for current Flinders University students who want to change their course+. It’s a good option if you don’t get accepted into your first preference of study, or if you decide to change your career direction.
A lot of students use pathway courses to get to where they are now; for example, some students start in the Bachelor of Psychological Sciences course for the first year of study, and transfer across to a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) for the second year. Flinders makes this process as simple as possible and your first year of study will count towards your new degree.
Combining your degree is a great way to pursue multiple passions and broaden your career opportunities. A combined degree gives you an advantage for employment in competitive and rapidly changing workplaces, both in Australia and overseas.
Sometimes there are questions that you just can’t answer. That’s where you need a great support team like the one at Flinders. A face-to-face appointment with one of our friendly Student Advisors gives you the chance to not only ask the questions that are important to you, but to get information and advice that you may have never considered.
“Meeting with Flinders University has been extremely helpful in exploring career options that incorporate my passions and fields of interest as well as some really helpful guidance."
