Study Systems and Security Engineering at Flinders

A unique pathway to a long career at the forefront of electronic and electromagnetic technologies.

Developed in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Group within the Department of Defence, this course encompasses a wide range of communication mediums including radar, radio and microwaves. A particular focus will be placed on technologies that adopt these in conjunction with studies in signal processing, infrared imaging systems, multispectral sensing, computer networks, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.

First year

The first year centres around the foundational areas that are crucial in the rest of the course – mathematics, programming, electronics, physics and professional skills

Second year

A typical second year may include:

The second year expands on your computing and electronics skills, with a focus on circuits, signals and systems, neural network and machine learning, whilst reinforcing mathematics and programming.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

The third year includes study in electronic engineering including electronic circuits, communication systems and electrical machines. It also includes further advanced physics including electromagnetics, electromagnetic waves, thermodynamics, energy systems and nuclear and statistical physics. Methods of heuristic optimisation (artificial intelligence) are also taught as is study in electromagnetic technologies, systems and security.

The degree provides you with practical experience, helping you graduate work-ready.

You'll have the opportunity to undertake a 12-week industry placement as part of your degree, which enables you to work alongside professional engineers tackling real-world problems.
