This short course equips you with a knowledge of the role of nuclear power in modern navies, examines the historical evolution from diesel engines to nuclear reactors and enables participants to apply reactor design concepts and compare naval and civilian reactors.
It explores engineering considerations, safety and sustainability. Current trends and technologies are explored including jet pump propulsion and all electrical systems with a simulation of modern propulsion systems.
Pre-requisites:
Completion of both Nuclear Reactor Engineering and Nuclear Reactor Design and Safety Analysis
The Naval Nuclear Power & Propulsion short course can be undertaken by those in industry that want to prepare for future industries, including shifting our submarines from diesel to nuclear power.
This course is aimed at:

On completion of this course, you will earn a Flinders Digital Credential that is verifiable and recognised as proof of your new skills and can be shared on LinkedIn to enhance your profile with employers.
This course is open to Australian citizens only.

Completing this course will count as one topic credit towards the University Certificate in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.
It will also provide credit towards the nuclear engineering major in a range of degree programs including:
