Nursing and Allied Health student placements

Students from any university or health-related courses are welcome to access our placement services in the Northern Territory, including disciplines such as nursing, physiotherapy, speech pathology, pharmacy, podiatry and nutrition and dietetics.

A rural placement offers significant professional benefits through diverse clinical experiences and skill development. Students often manage a wide variety of cases, fostering growth and responsibility.

Flinders University Department of Rural Health (UDRH)

The Flinders University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) comprises of a dedicated team of academics and professional staﬀ located across the Northern Territory, focusing on health education, student placements and research.

Our UDRH performs various functions, including;

Facilitating training placements in rural and remote health and community services for undergraduate and post graduate allied health students.
Providing accommodation and social support to nursing and allied health students during their placements.
Supporting the continuing professional development of rural and remote health professionals.
Undertaking rural and remote health research in close partnership with local communities, health professionals and services.
Supporting Indigenous health workforce, including Indigenous health academics.

Planning for placement

When it comes to planning your rural placement, follow the below checklist to help you with the process:

Discover which of our sites interests you the most.

Book your placement through your normal university channels.

Complete your university requirements for placement.

Work with your university placement team and placement host organisation to verify the compliance documents needed for an NT placement (for example see here.)

Register with ntplacements@flinders.edu.au so that we may link you into cultural training and other placement support services, and let you know about activities and services in your area.
